This week the 2016 fantasy golf season rolls along in the nation's capital, as 120 players tee it up in the Quicken Loans National. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard and Randall Mell; editorial director Jay Coffin; associate editor Will Gray; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; host Charlie Rymer and defending fantasy champion Ryan Lavner.
Group 1: Patrick Reed: Although he missed the cut at Oakmont, Reed has been his normally consistent self this season with nine top-10s in 18 starts.
Group 3: Kevin Streelman: Although he might be a little spent following last week’s U.S. Open, he did finish tied for 13th place at Oakmont which is a strong sign he is on his game.
Group 4: Hudson Swafford: He’s been trending in the right direction in recent weeks having not missed a cut since early May and Congressional is a perfect course for his power game.
Group 1: Patrick Reed: While he hasn't won in nearly 18 months, Reed leads the Tour in top-10 finishes this season with nine and held the 54-hole lead the last time this event was held at Congressional.
Group 2: Charley Hoffman: A winner earlier this season, Hoffman has been quietly consistent throughout the spring and has finished T-28 or better each of the last three times Congressional has hosted, including a T-3 finish two years ago.
Group 3: Roberto Castro: Castro lost in a playoff at Quail Hollow, another sprawling layout similar to Congressional, and like Hoffman he has cracked the top 30 in each of his last three trips around this week's venue, including a 2013 runner-up.
Group 4: Robert Garrigus: The bomber is starting to show signs of form, notably a T-4 finish last month at the AT&T Byron Nelson, and he finished T-4 here in 2012 and T-11 in 2014.
