54-hole leader yet to win at Greenbrier

The Greenbrier has been kind to comebacks. Since the tournament began in 2010, all five winners at the event have trailed entering the final round.

Angel Cabrera was the latest player to stage a come-from-behind victory in West Virginia, rallying from two shots back Sunday to win by two over George McNeill.

Billy Hurley III, who led by two entering the final round, bogeyed four holes in a five-hole stretch on the front nine on his way to a closing 3-over 73. Of the five third-round leaders at the Greenbrier, he was the fourth to shoot 73 or worse on the last day.

Here is the 54-hole position of the eventual champions at the Greenbrier:

Angel Cabrera (2014): 2nd, two shots back

Jonas Blixt (2013): 3rd, four shots back

Ted Potter Jr. (2012): T-3, four shots back

Scott Stallings (2011): 2nd, one shot back

Stuart Appleby (2010): T-8, seven shots back

And how the 54-hole leaders fared on Sunday:

Billy Hurley III (2014): 73, finished T-4

Johnson Wagner (2013): 73, finished T-2

Webb Simpson (2012): 73, finished T-7

Anthony Kim (2011): 74, finished T-14

Jeff Overton (2010): 67, finished 2nd

This season on the PGA Tour, the third-round leader or co-leader has gone on to win 16 of the 33 stroke-play events.
