GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the likes of Brian Stuard and Nicolas Thompson the end came quickly.
Through two rounds at Sedgefield Country Club, four players – including Stuard, Thompson, Scott Stallings and Jamie Donaldson – are projected to fall out of the top 125; while Tiger Woods, Tom Hoge, Camilo Villegas and Scott Langley are currently slated to advance to next week’s Barclays.
Woods, who began the week at 187th on the points list and needs a victory or maybe a solo second-place finish to make the playoffs, and Hoge are tied for the 36-hole lead at 11 under, while Villegas (currently 129th) is tied for 32nd.
Langley, who rebounded from an opening 71 with a second-round 66, is projected to move to 125th place from No. 126.
“I probably think about it a little more when I’m at home sitting on the couch,” Langley said. “I’m just trying to play well in the golf tournament. I just try not to think about it too much.”
Stallings is not playing this week. He was suspended for 90 days in July by the PGA Tour after turning himself in for taking a substance that is banned by the circuit’s anti-doping program.
Donaldson is also not playing this week at Sedgefield Country Club.
