Cauley back from injury, trying to regain status

IRVING, Texas – Bud Cauley spent the better part of 15 months watching. It was a hard 15 months.

Following surgery on his left shoulder to repair a torn labrum in September 2014, Cauley didn’t play at all last season and picked up his career this season playing on a medical extension.

But even that new beginning has been spotty, with two starts in November and three on the West Coast before the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago.

“It is tough, especially coming off an injury where I haven’t played. To play a couple and then wait for a few weeks,” Cauley said. “I played a lot, tried to play a lot more golf last week at home just to get myself into better rhythm.”

Cauley said he expects to have a schedule that is closer to normal this summer, and he’s making the most of his second start in three weeks at the AT&T Byron Nelson, where he’s tied for third after a third-round 68.

“It’s nice to be back out here where it matters and you get the juices flowing again and it’s fun,” said Cauley, who is 13 under, three shots off the lead held by Brooks Koepka.

Cauley has 17 starts on his medical exemption to earn 458 FedEx Cup points. He’s already earned 179 points in six starts this season.
