Jason Day's back injury will cause him to miss two tournaments in his native Australia next month. Day announced on Thursday that he will miss the Emirates Australian Open Nov. 17-20 at Royal Sydney and the World Cup of Golf Nov. 24-27 at Kingston Heath in Melbourne.
At issue is the long trip to Australia while Day is in the midst of his rehabilitation.
“I regret that I will be unable to come home to Australia this year," Day said in a statement. "I was looking forward to playing in the Australian Open and teaming up with Adam Scott on one of my favorite courses Kingston Heath the following week at the World Cup in Melbourne.
“My plan is to return home to Australia in 2017. My best wishes to all in Sydney at the Open and to Adam and Team Australia in Melbourne at the World Cup.”
Day also withdrew from a charity match against Rory McIlroy that was to be played Nov. 29 in the Philippines. The “Battle for a Cause” was set to raise money in Day's mother’s homeland.
