Davis Love III will be sidelined for the next two months following foot surgery on Wednesday.
According to Love’s surgeon, Dr. David Murphy, the procedure took hours and is a common issue for golfers, who spend hours at a time on their feet.
“It was actually a series of traumatic events, 20 miles [walking] every week on Tour, that caused this,” Murphy said.
Murphy said he expects Love to be able to start working on his short game in about three weeks, followed three weeks later by full swings and eventually a return to the Tour, likely in early June.
Love is not qualified for next week’s Masters, the WGC-Cadillac Match Play or The Players, three of the next five events, and decided this was the best time to address the ailment, which has been an issue for some time.
Love, who tied for 44th last week at the Valero Texas Open, was appointed the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain in February and will also serve as an assistant captain for this year’s U.S. Presidents Cup team.
