PHOENIX – Ha Na Jang will tee it up Thursday at the JTBC Founders Cup, looking to win back-to-back starts and her third LPGA title this season.
Here are four groups to watch at JW Marriott’s Wildfire Golf Club this week (All times are ET):
3:45 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. Friday: Jang, Brooke Henderson, Alison Lee
Jang moved to No. 5 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings with her victory at the HSBC Women’s Champions two weeks ago, the last LPGA event. She leads the tour in official money ($560, 668), scoring average (69.15) and greens hit in regulation (84.17 percent). Henderson is looking for her second LPGA title and Lee her first.
Ko hasn’t won at Wildfire Golf Club yet, but she has made good runs at the title. She tied for second two years ago and tied for sixth last year. Creamer is looking to build on that promising T-5 start to the year at the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic. Korda tied for third at the Honda Thailand three weeks ago.
Lewis thrives at Wildfire Golf Club. She hasn’t finished outside second place in the last three years here. She won in 2013 and finished second in ’14 and second again last year. Pressel is looking to build some momentum with the year’s first major two weeks away; she won the ANA Inspiration when it was known as the Kraft Nabisco in ’07. Phatlum, seeking her first LPGA title, tied for second at the HSBC Women’s Champions two weeks ago.
This veteran trio has combined to win 50 LPGA titles. Park (17), Kerr (18) and Pettersen (15) have battled each other for some of the game’s biggest prizes. Park has won seven majors, while Kerr and Pettersen own two apiece.
