Smylie Kaufman didn’t earn a green jacket with his performance this weekend at Augusta National, but he did manage to upgrade to a new ride.
Kaufman was a surprise contender in his Masters debut, playing his way into Sunday’s final pairing alongside Jordan Spieth after shooting a 3-under 69 in the third round. During an interview in Butler Cabin afterwards, Kaufman pointed out that in addition to still living with his parents as he looks to purchase a house, his current vehicle is a 2008 Nissan Murano.
“It drives really nice,” Kaufman told Jim Nantz.
While Kaufman plummeted to a T-29 finish after shooting an 81 in the final round, his comments caught the attention of the folks at Nissan, who tweeted the 24-year-old that they would provide him with a new set of wheels after he gave them some unexpected brand awareness:
Good luck at #TheMasters, @SmylieKaufman10! Win or lose, we've got a 2016 Nissan Murano waiting to upgrade your 2008 pic.twitter.com/cOotvCvRC3

@NissanUSA @Nissan I'm glad I didn't have to hit a hole in one to get one! I appreciate the unexpected surprise!
