CROMWELL, Conn. – Ryan Moore opened with a 7-under 63 on Thursday, which is pretty impressive considering how he left the course one day earlier.
“I was a little frustrated during the pro-am yesterday,” he admitted. “I was a little out of sorts and didn’t feel that great. I got done at about 1:30 or so and said, ‘I’m done for the day and I’m not doing anything else. I’m frustrated right now, so going to practice and do more stuff, I’m not going to get less frustrated. So I’m just going to relax and enjoy my afternoon.’”
That strategy obviously worked.
Moore posted an eagle and six birdies against just one bogey to finish the day just one shot behind leader Brendan Steele.
“I was relaxed and comfortable and just played golf today, instead of overdoing it and overthinking it, which I feel like I’ve maybe done a bit lately. I’ve been practicing too much instead of just relaxing and knowing I can just go play golf and shoot a score.”
