Love, Woods still trading texts on Ryder Cup

KAPALUA, Hawaii – Since the creation of the U.S. Ryder Cup task force following the American side’s loss in 2014 in Scotland, captain Davis Love III has found himself on Tiger Woods’ speed dial.

During last year’s Presidents Cup in South Korea, Woods and Love traded text messages throughout the week, and Love named Woods one of his vice captains for this year’s Ryder Cup last November.

On Wednesday at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Love said that dialogue has continued with Woods during the fall.

“We talked during the RSM [Classic] about some Ryder Cup stuff,” Love said. “Since then it’s just been a couple of text messages around his birthday.”

In October, Woods had a “follow-up procedure” after having back surgery in September and said he has no timeline for his possible return to the PGA Tour.
