DALY CITY, Calif. – Suzann Pettersen hoped she could return to play at the Swinging Skirts Classic this week, but she withdrew Wednesday before the pro-am with a lingering injury.
Pettersen withdrew before the start of the third round of last week’s Lotte Championship with pain in her left shoulder.
“After consulting with my team of doctors and physical therapist I've been recommended to take another week off,” Pettersen said in a statement. “As much as it saddens me to miss this week, I need to get healthy so I can compete at the highest level.”
Pettersen, 34, is a 14-time LPGA winner with two major championships. After winning four times in 2013, she moved to No. 2 in the world, moving as close to No. 1 as she’s ever been, but she lost momentum struggling with a back injury early last season. She tied for eighth at the ANA Inspiration three weeks ago in her last full event. She’s No. 8 in the world rankings.
