MEXICO CITY – Adam Scott is technically this week’s defending champion at the World Golf Championship, but the event certainly doesn’t feel familiar.
The WGC moved this year to Mexico City from Doral, where Scott edged Bubba Watson by a stroke in 2016, and has a new title – WGC-Mexico Championship.
“It’s nice to go back to the course that you played really well on, but it’s just another week and we’re all learning the course, kind of starting on an even playing field,” Scott said.

Scott also doesn’t feel as confident with his game as he did at this point last year. Coming into this event last year, the Australian had finished second (Genesis Open) and won the week before at the Honda Classic. So far this year he’s finished tied for 11th place (Genesis Open) and 14th last week at the Honda Classic, and he said on Wednesday he’s been slowed by a cold the last few days.
“I feel better today,” he said. “Struggling a bit yesterday, I went a bit downhill, but today’s better. For the first time in two weeks I felt like I swung the club well, so I’m feeling pretty good about myself today.”
