Annie Park opened with a 3-under-par 69 Thursday in a bid to win the season-ending Symetra Tour Championship at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Park, who is seeking her fourth victory this season on the LPGA’s developmental tour, is three shots off the lead. No other player has won more than two Symetra Tour titles this year. Park, the former USC standout, won the NCAA individual championship in 2013.
Cydney Clanton, Catherine O’Donnell and Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong share the first-round lead after opening with 66s.
Ashlan Ramsey and Su Oh are one shot back with Lacey Agnew and Heather Bowie Young two shots back.
Vicky Hurst, a two-time winner this season, is four shots back.
The top 10 on the Symetra Tour money list at Sunday’s conclusion of play will earn LPGA membership for the 2016 season. The only players outside the top 10 on the money list who broke par on Thursday were Samantha Richdale (-2) and Brittany Altomare (-2). They’re 19th and 21st on the money list, respectively. Richdale needs a solo second-place finish to have a chance to crack the top 10 on the money list and Altomare needs a victory to have a chance.
