This 13-year-old amateur made the cut in India but did she make LET history?

Shooting a 3-under 69 was an impressive feat for anyone in the field at the Hero Women’s Indian Open on Friday, where conditions limited low scores and kept the leaderboard bunched heading into the weekend.

For Ojaswini Saraswat — at 13 years, six months and 14 days old, it was a historic achievement.

The Indian amateur tied the low round of the day to move to T-26 on the leaderboard and make the cut at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, an hour south of Delhi. She’s the second youngest player to make the cut at an LET event, falling just shy of Ariya Jutanugarn’s record mark at the 2008 Finnair Masters.

“I feel great actually,” said Saraswat in a post-round interview. “After yesterday’s round, I just wanted to play good today because I got to know what mistakes I made. I had a lot of support from my parents and my brother and my caddie, and of course my sponsors. Playing this tournament made me really excited because last year I watched this tournament.”

Saraswat made seven birdies on Friday after posting just one during her opening round 79.

“I just wanted to make some birdies because it was really important to do that,” she said. “I knew the cut would be around there, and I played yesterday seven-over yesterday, so I just wanted to make up for that score. I knew that I made all the mistakes yesterday.”

She told reporters she grew up playing at the Mohali Golf Range that was located “in front of my house.”

“I thought, ‘Let’s give it a try.’ I was really fascinated by trophies,” she recalled.

At 4 over through 36 holes, Saraswat sits 10 shots off Chiara Tamburlini’s lead at 6 under.

“Playing at DLF is one of my biggest dreams,” Saraswat said. “I have a really good support system, and my school is really good with academics, so I get to play a lot more.”

After the round, she posed for a picture with reigning PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai.

The 31-year-old major champ is on an extended visit in India, where his wife, Gaurika Bishnoi, is from.
