Spieth 'learned a lot' from Kaymer at '14 Players

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Jordan Spieth didn’t like the way he closed The Players Championship last year, but he says he still cherishes a memory from that day.

Spieth played alongside Martin Kaymer, who beat him and everyone else to win at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course.

Spieth says he loved the respectful but competitive spirit he witnessed in Kaymer.

“I learned a lot from Martin,” Spieth said. “I learned a lot about how kind players on the Tour are, because I was getting down on myself. When it started to kind of turn his way, he came up, put an arm around me and said, `Come on, man, you got this, let's make this a fight.’

“Just having somebody say that in the heat of the moment speaks to the PGA Tour and the players. It's a moment that I don't think I'll ever forget. It was something that was very special to me, and he’s certainly a role model. That was something I can learn maybe going forward. He wanted a battle. He didn't care. He didn't want it given to him.”
