Gary Woodland took to Twitter Wednesday to elaborate on the reason for his withdrawal from last week’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Woodland had defeated Emiliano Grillo in his first match and was set to square off with Rory McIlroy when he abruptly withdrew, citing a “family matter.” Woodland and his wife, Gabby, had announced on March 1 that they were expecting twins and he explained that the couple had unexpectedly lost one of the babies:

Woodland is currently ranked No. 35 in the world and is not in the field this week at the Shell Houston Open. His 2016-17 season is highlighted by a runner-up finish at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and a T-2 finish last month at the Honda Classic.
