AUGUSTA, Ga. – Last year Adam Scott became the first Australian to claim the green jacket. Twelve months later Oliver Goss became the first player from Down Under to win the Silver Cup awarded to the week’s low amateur at the Masters.
“I can’t believe it, to be honest with you. I heard that I might be the second, but to be the first is really quite unbelievable,” said Goss, who was the only amateur to make the cut and closed with a 75 for a 10-over-par total.
Goss, who was born in England but moved to Australia when he was young, earned his spot in the field with his runner-up finish at last year’s U.S. Amateur.

A sophomore at the University of Tennessee, Goss is also exempt into June’s U.S. Open and said he has not made a decision regarding his future plans and whether he would potentially turn pro.
“After that I’m going to get together with my team and we’ll talk about things and just see how everything is. If it’s the right time, then it’s the right time. But if it isn’t then that’s fine,” Goss said. “I’m just looking to turn at the right time because that’s really pivotal when you turn professional in your career.”
