Since the start of 2010, Matt Kuchar has 24 top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour – the most in that stretch. (Luke Donald is second with 23.) The knock on Kuchar, however, is the inability to improve those high finishes in that span into more than a playoff win at the 2010 Barclays.
Coming off of a T-3 finish at the Masters, the Georgia Tech product admits a top 10 means less than it once did.
‘I think those early days in your career you always think, I would have made this much more money if I was just two shots better,’ he said Wednesday at the RBC Heritage.
‘Now I feel like I’m at a position where I don’t try to protect a top 10 or a top 5 now. I feel like I’m in a position where winning is the important thing. And I had a chance on Sunday. It was an exciting place to have a chance.’
Major or otherwise, Kuchar has learned wondering ‘what if’ is not very productive.
‘I think one of things you learn in this game is it’s not real helpful to look at Monday morning’s paper and say, ‘what if I played just one shot better, or two shots better.’ I kept replaying in my mind all the great shots,’ he said. ‘And then the couple of missed opportunities.’
