With Snedeker out, Jacobson in Match Play field

Fredrik Jacobson missed qualifying for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship by the slimmest of margins on Sunday.
Two days later, his plans have changed.
Jacobson now finds himself in the field after Brandt Snedeker, the winner last week at Pebble Beach, withdrew from the 64-man tournament on Tuesday due to a rib injury.
Of course, barring any other withdrawals, the Junkman is now in line to play the No. 1 overall seed Rory McIlroy in the first round at Dove Mountain. Tiger Woods would face No. 65-seeded Shane Lowry.
Last year, Jacobson lost in the opening round to Robert Karlsson, 6 and 5. It was his third appearance in the event, and first since 2005.
Now, the first alternate for the Match Play is No. 67 seed Bernd Wiesberger, followed by Anders Hansen, Scott Jamieson and Chris Kirk.
Though the field for the Feb. 20-24 event is set, the seeding won’t be finalized until Sunday, when the world rankings are updated following the final round of the Northern Trust Open.
At Pebble Beach, Jacobson needed to finish solo seventh or better to move into the top 64 and automatically qualify for the Match Play. An improbable birdie by Patrick Reed on the last hole, however, dropped him into a share of seventh, thus bumping Jacobson out of the Match Play by .0002 points.
