Lowry gets 65th spot for Match Play; Jacobson bumped

Patrick Reed’s improbable birdie from the rocks on 18 meant more than a share of seventh place at Pebble Beach.
It also kept Fredrik Jacobson out of the upcoming WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Reed’s 11-foot birdie on the final hole at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am put him in a tie for seventh with Jacobson, who was in the clubhouse at 12-under 274. The Swede needed to finish solo seventh to earn enough world-ranking points to move to 65th in the world and into the 64-man Match Play field. (Phil Mickelson has already announced that he will not play.)
Instead, it is Irishman Shane Lowry who earned the final spot into the field, edging Jacobson by mere percentage points – .0002 points, to be exact. Though the field is set, barring withdrawals, the seeds for the Feb. 20-24 event will not be finalized until after next week’s Northern Trust Open.
If the seeds remain the same, Lowry would face good friend and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy in the first round at Dove Mountain, while Tiger Woods would square off against No. 64 Charles Howell III, who already has three top 10s in four starts this season, including a second- and third-place finish.
