Before daybreak last Wednesday in a nondescript office somewhere in the bowels of the U.S. Golf Associations temporary command center near Bethpage Black Mike Davis and a member of his staff locked themselves in with a stack of 3-by-5 note cards and had fun. That is to say they created a draft grouping sheet for Rounds 1 and 2 for this weeks U.S. Open.
