J.J. Spaun had a little help in winning the BMW PGA Championship on Sunday at Wentworth.
Not only did competitor Manuel Elvira double-bogey the par-5 18th hole to end two shots back of the victorious Spaun, but before that, Spaun took advantage of, fittingly, a BMW.
The SUV was displayed just behind the closing green, and when Spaun left himself 218 yards to the hole, it was the perfect aiming point. Downwind and from a draw lie, Spaun decided the shot called for a stock 5-iron.
“Start at the front wheel of the BMW that was up there,” Spaun said. “I just laced it, like just flushed it right at it. I knew as long as I got it on the green, that I would walk away with par at the worst.”
From 28 feet, Spaun two-putted for birdie to play the finishing hole 6 under for the tournament.
