What to watch: Illinois has won four straight Big Ten titles, but a fifth in a row is no guarantee as there are as many as six or seven teams who could win a conference title this spring. That being said, Mike Small’s team is still the favorite at this point. There is no more Dylan Meyer or Nick Hardy, but Illinois has a solid top 3 in Bryan Baumgarten, Michael Feagles and Giovanni Tadiotto. Freshman Adrian Dumont de Chassart tied for second as an individual at the McDonald Cup, the first of Illinois’ two fall wins, and has been in the lineup ever since. … Senior Ryan Lumsden and freshman David Nyfjall each won fall individual titles for Northwestern, the biggest challenger to Illinois this spring. … Ohio State also has a strong duo at the top in seniors Will Grimmer and Daniel Wetterich. … Iowa is better than its ranking suggests as the Hawkeyes were disqualified at Erin Hills after a series of unfortunate circumstances. … Purdue played a whopping six events in the fall and senior Tommy Hildebrand notched five finishes of T-11 or better.
