Jonzon birdies final hole to win Castello Masters

CASTELLON, Spain ‘Michael Jonzon has won his first European Tour title in 12 years with a birdie on his final hole at the Castello Masters for a 4-under 67 and a one-stroke victory.

The 37-year-old Swede finished the tournament at the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo at 20-under 264 on Sunday. Martin Kaymer of Germany shot a 67 and Christian Nilsson of Sweden had a 65 to finish tied for second.

Last year’s champion and course host Sergio Garcia was fourth, three shots off the lead.

Jonzon had a one-shot lead going into the final round and was in control for much of the day. But a double bogey on the 15th, followed by a bogey on the 17th allowed Kaymer and Nilsson to draw even at 19-under. Jonzon went ahead with his final birdie and Kaymer and Nilsson could only par the hole.
