HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Jason Day’s left hand has been placed in a cast to allow his thumb to heal after last week’s Masters, but according to his manager the Australian still plans to play next month’s Players Championship.

Day, who had been sidelined since the WGC-Cadillac Championship with the injury, tied for 20th last week at Augusta National but withdrew from this week’s RBC Heritage on Monday.

“The cast is precautionary,” said Bud Martin, Day’s manager with Wasserman Media Group. “(The thumb) needs to be completely immobilized to allow the inflammation to go down.”

Day, who is ranked fifth in the world, returned home to Ohio following the Masters and Martin said he will be ready to play the PGA Tour’s marquee event at TPC Sawgrass May 8-11.
