BRADENTON, Fla. – Duke freshman Leona Maguire won the Annika Award on Tuesday as the top player in women’s college golf.

Maguire, who won three times this season, finished in a tie for second at the NCAA individual championship. The Blue Devils earned the No. 2 seed after 72 holes of stroke-play qualifying and face seventh-seeded Texas Tech in Tuesday’s quarterfinals at Concession.

“To win golf tournaments is one thing,” Maguire said, “but to win an award that’s voted on by your peers and the coaches and the media, that’s another level.”

Maguire, from Ireland, is the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world.
