The R&A announced a preliminary list of 20 potential Great Britain & Ireland team members for the 2015 Walker Cup.
The biennial matches with the U.S. will be held Sept. 12-13 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, and a final roster for the 10-member team will be announced in August. Team GB&I will look to reclaim the trophy after the Americans won, 17-9, in 2013 at National Golf Links of America.
The 20 finalists include only one player with prior Walker Cup experience: Ireland’s Gavin Moynihan, who played in 2013. Other notable names include Scotland’s Bradley Neil, the ninth-ranked amateur in the world who won the 2014 British Amateur, England’s Sam Horsfield, a University of Florida commit who won the 2013 Florida Amateur by 11 shots, and England’s Ashley Chesters, twice a winner of the European Amateur.
While the final roster will likely come from the list below, GB&I captain Nigel Edwards did note that players not on the preliminary list are able to play their way onto the team, as did Danny Willett (2007) and Steven Brown (2011).
