Danielle Kang gave herself a nice belated birthday gift in Thursday’s opening round of the Blue Bay LPGA in China.
Kang won a Buick LaCrosse when she made a hole-in-one at the 17th hole. She won the car sinking an 8-iron from 155 yards. It was the seventh hole-in-one of her life, her third this year and her first with a prize attached. She turned 22 on Monday.
Notably, this week marked the first time she celebrated a birthday since her father, K.S., died of cancer late last year.
“I think it was a gift from him,” Kang said of the car.
Kang said she felt like her birthday lasted more than a day with the time change. China is 12 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the United States. She got birthday wishes from around the world over a two-day span and her mother even brought her two birthday cakes.
“It was the longest birthday of my life, actually,” Kang told media in China.
