Vegas, Lovemark tied at suspended Zurich Classic

Thumbnail

They’re still trying to catch up in New Orleans after a five hour rain delay on Thursday. Here’s how things stand through two days at the Zurich Classic.

Leaderboard: Jamie Lovemark (-11), Jhonattan Vegas (-11), Brian Stuard (-10 thru 12), Harold Varner III (-8)

What It Means: Lovemark and Vegas completed their first rounds on Friday morning, and went back out in the afternoon to grab a share of the lead. Lovemark has gotten off to several hot starts this season, but he’s had trouble closing on the weekends. Four of his five career top-10 finishes have come this season. He held a share of the 54-hole lead at the Shell Houston Open, but he finished 18th after a 76 in the final round. Vegas has yet to record a top-10 in seven events this year.

Round of the Day: Lovemark recorded seven birdies and a bogey for a 66, but keep an eye on Daniel Berger (-7). He was six under for his round thru 13 holes when play was suspended due to darkness.

Biggest Disappointment: Defending champion Justin Rose shot two rounds of even par, and will have to wait and see if that’s good enough to make the weekend. Currently, the projected cut is 2 under par.

Main Storyline Heading Into Saturday: World No. 1 Jason Day (-5) and Rickie Fowler (-4) have yet to complete their second rounds and both have a chance to move into contention heading into the third round.
