The LPGA issued a statement Saturday morning reacting to Ted Bishop’s removal Friday as president of the PGA of America after he created a controversy calling European Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter a little girl in two social media posts.
The LPGA statement: “The PGA of America’s quick and decisive action sent a strong message - reinforcing a consistent belief that with so many positive gains being made among golf’s leading organizations, there is simply no room, nor willingness, to take a step backwards.”
Bishop created the furor by calling Poulter a “Lil Girl” on Twitter on Thursday. In a separate post on Facebook, Bishop wrote that Poulter “sounds like a little school girl squealing during recess.”
