“Because of the injury, I was not swinging the way I wanted, and we didn’t know exactly what the problem was,” the South Korean said. “The new coach, my husband’s friend, found some good points on my swing and we worked on that. I was hitting the ball much better than a couple months ago.”

As far as the tune-up event in Korea, where she missed the cut, Park said it helped her zero in on the parts of her game that needed improvement.

“I found the problems on the greens. I found the problems everywhere. I knew what to work on coming into this week,” she said.

The work paid off for Park, who lapped the field in Rio by five strokes with a closing 66 to claim the women’s gold medal.
