PGA Tour veteran Mike Smith died on Wednesday following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was 63.

Smith, who played 336 Tour events and finished runner-up twice, was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in December. According to a FaceBook page created to track Smith’s treatments, he’d been undergoing chemotherapy and played in a local men’s event in Alabama in March.

Smith, who also played four full seasons on the Champions Tour, died in his mother’s home in Gulf Shores. Funeral services will be held on Friday at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Ala.
