DALY CITY, Calif. – Gerina Piller ended a special day smiling over the fact that she shared a top-5 weekend with her husband, PGA Tour pro Martin Piller.

A couple hours after Martin tied for fourth at the Valero Texas Open, Gerina tied for third at the Swinging Skirts Classic.

“Nothing makes me more happy than to see him succeed,” Gerina said.

Piller had a tough task, trying to catch Haru Nomura in heavy winds at Lake Merced Golf Club. She started the day five shots back and closed with a 1-over-par 73, finishing five back.

Piller, seeking her first LPGA title, is making a habit of hitting leaderboards this year. Sunday’s finish was her third top 10 in her last four starts.

“I’m just really getting comfortable with being at the top of the leaderboard,” Piller said.

Piller started the morning watching her husband, Martin, on her cell phone via Slingbox. She got updates on the range from her caddie and checked on Martin’s status just before teeing off. She also got updates on the course.

“It was actually kind of cool, because it kind of took my mind off of my game and what I had to do today,” Piller said. “I was kind of more worried about him than I was my own game.”
