DUBLIN, Ohio – For a guy who eased into the top spot in the World Golf Ranking from his couch, Adam Scott has spent the last two weeks playing like a man intent on staying atop the heap.

Scott, who won last week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational in a playoff in his first start as the world’s No. 1, carded his lowest round of the week (68) at the Memorial Tournament to move to fourth place, three shots out of the lead held by Bubba Watson.

For Scott, however, it’s not about his world ranking as much as it is his ability to continue to play well.

“I’m playing with a lot of confidence,” said Scott, who has never won back-to-back events on the PGA Tour. “It’s funny how quickly it can build because I went to the Crowne Plaza having not swung the club very well and not 100 percent sure and then it really falls into place on Sunday.”

It also helps that regardless of Sunday’s outcome, he can’t lose the top ranking this week.
