DUBLIN, Ohio – It has been a season of firsts for Carlos Ortiz, so why would this week be any different.

Ortiz began his first year on the Web.com Tour by winning the Panama Claro Championship and followed that with his second victory at the Mexico Championship to lock up his PGA Tour card for the 2014-15 season.

Now he will experience another first, playing his first Tour event this week at the Memorial tournament, where the native of Mexico was granted a sponsor exemption.

“When I first found out I couldn’t believe it,” he said on Tuesday.

Ortiz is pacing the Web.com Tour money list and nearly scored his third victory on the secondary circuit and an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour earlier this month when he finished third at the South Georgia Classic.

As for the new experience of playing a Tour event, Ortiz said he is used to it by now.

“It’s just the same. You shoot low, it’s just different names on the leaderboard,” he said.
