Suzann Pettersen can seize the Rolex world No. 1 ranking from Inbee Park this week with a victory or a second-place finish.

If Pettersen wins the CME Group Titleholders, she ascends to No. 1 for the first time in her career. It wouldn’t matter how Park finishes.

If Pettersen finishes second at Tiburon, she can still ascend to No. 1 if Park finishes seventh or worse.

Pettersen, 32, has been No. 2 behind four different players in her career: Annika Sorenstam, Lorena Ochoa, Yani Tseng and Inbee Park.

Pettersen said she’s more interested in her Sunday pairing than her first-round pairing.

“My goal is to be in the last group on Sunday, then I feel like I have some overview of what’s going on,” Pettersen said. “It’s been a great season so far, and Asia was again a very good addition to my Asian success. I’m just really trying to finish off strong so I can take a break on a high.”
