IRVING, Texas – Another frustrating day at TPC Four Seasons, another frustrating finish for Jordan Spieth at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
In his fourth start at his hometown event as a professional, Spieth again failed to match his best finish at the Nelson as an amateur, a tie for 16th place as a 16-year-old in 2010.
“Kind of stinks, given I had a chance here at a hometown event,” said Spieth, who tied for 18th after a closing 74. “I haven’t had great success here in the past. This was an opportunity that, you can’t win them all, and certainly would have liked to have put on a little more of a display but, you know, just a tough day.”

Spieth’s ball-striking woes continued on Day 4, with the world No. 2 hitting just 9 of 18 greens in regulation and 5 of 14 fairways. It had been a struggle all week for Spieth, but for the first three days his putter had kept him in contention.
But even his normally reliable play on the greens was off on Sunday; he needed 31 putts and managed just one birdie on the closing nine (at No. 18).
“You can’t necessarily rely on your putter the way I relied on it for three rounds,” Spieth said. “You normally can rely on it for one. I got three out of them. Lot of good putts that went by the lip, high side, low side. Sometimes that happens.”
