Watch: Mickelson’s hybrid-happy magic show

Phil Mickelson’s career has been less about playing golf and more about attempting performance art. Lefty’s unusual utilizations of his hybrid on Nos. 13, 14 and 18 at Torrey Pines North on Friday fit that bill.

On 13, Mickelson missed the fairway left and found himself in a buried lie from 148 yards. While others might try to hack out with a wedge or iron, Phil played this punch-runner to the putting surface.

“That is creative genius.” Phil continues to amaze with his creativity. https://t.co/4H5xS4gSR2 — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) January 29, 2016

On the very next hole, with the very same club, Mickelson managed to reach the green in two on the par-5 14th despite clipping the top of this fairway bunker immediately after impact.

Both unconventional plays resulted in a birdie. Unfortunately, this noisy attempt from the parking lot and through a fence at the par-5 18th led to double bogey.

Stay tuned this week to see if Phil tries to skip one across the pond on 18 South, because why not?
