Rich Beem wont have to worry about skipping his title defense in the PGA Championship.
Beems wife, Sara, gave birth to their first child, a boy, Friday at 6:37 AM in El Paso, Texas. Michael Waide, who arrived nearly three weeks before his due date, measured 6 pounds, 11 ounces and 20 inches.
Both mother and child are in excellent condition, according to a press release.
She did all the hard work, Beem told The Golf Channel. I was the one screaming.
When asked how it felt to be a first-time father, the usually loquacious Beem said simply, Its awesome.
The PGA Championship will take place Aug. 14-17 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. Beem had said that he would pull out of the event if his wife gave birth at some time during the tournament.
