Daly hits tree root, may have torn ligaments

After coming in fourth at the Qatar Masters for his best finish since 2009, John Daly’s comeback has hit a speed bump – actually, a tree root.

During the first round of the Avantha Masters on Thursday, Daly struck a buried tree root with his second shot on the par-5 ninth hole at DLF G&CC. Daly tweeted his elbow “snapped” after he hit the root. After making birdie on No. 9, Daly played the final nine holes in 6-over 42, including a triple-bogey at the par-5 14th hole.

The two-time major winner carded 7-over 79 which left him T-127, next to last, in India. The European Tour leaderboard still has Daly in the tournament, but it seems he is done for the week.

Daly tweeted a picture of his right arm in a cast. He said, “No bones are broken, possible torn ligaments according to European Tour Docs – getting home for X-rays!”
