SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – Lydia Ko was low amateur in her first U.S. Women’s Open last year.
A month after that, she won the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Two weeks after that, she became the youngest winner of an LPGA event claiming the CN Canadian Women’s Open.
Not a bad way to spend a summer as a 15-year-old.

Ko returns to the U.S. Women’s Open this year as a legitimate contender. She’s the world’s top amateur, but she’s also No. 16 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, a ranking of pros and amateurs.
Ko made a run at winning the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship last week. She tied for fourth just two shots back.
“I think that was the biggest boost,” Ko said. “Coming off a really good week makes me confident.”
