American Stacy Lewis got herself in early contention at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Wednesday while China’s Shanshan Feng struggled in the first round of the Ladies European Tour’s season finale.

Lewis opened with a 2-under-par 70, good for a tie for sixth.

Feng, the defending champ, opened with a 76.

Lewis (No. 3) and Feng (No. 4) are the highest world-ranked players in the field.

Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, a member of the 2013 European Solheim Cup team, is among three players tied for the lead. Ciganda, Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg and Spain’s Mireia Pratt all opened with 67s.

England’s Laura Davies and Charley Hull are tied for sixth with Lewis.
