Little time to know new Cog Hill

Nothing against scheduled Monday finishes, but this one is a bit of a bummer. Because this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship goes Friday through Monday, players heading to next week’s BMW Championship will have a quick turnaround and limited practice on the nip/tucked Dubsdread course at Cog Hill, and that’s a shame.

The layout underwent a $5 million renovation via Rees Jones with an eye toward landing a U.S. Open, and how players shine to the changes may go a long way to decide if the national championship returns to the Windy City.

“I think it is a major tournament golf course,’ Jones told PGATour.com. “Cog Hill has everything going for it. It has a championship layout. ... It has a lot of space. It has hotels, airports and fans. Chicago is a great golf town. It should have a major.”

Of course, the Cubs should have won a world championship sometime during the last century, and we all know how that’s worked out.
