No driver, five wedges in Mickelson’s PGA bag

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – By most accounts, Phil Mickelson became the first player to win a major championship last month without a driver in his bag. He will have the chance to do it twice at this week’s PGA Championship.

Lefty’s swing coach Butch Harmon confirmed to GolfChannel.com on Wednesday at Oak Hill that Mickelson will not have a driver, or the 2-wood hybrid he used earlier this season, in his bag when he tees off on Thursday.

“There’s just no room for it,” Harmon said.

Instead, Mickelson will carry a 3-wood – which he used to win the third leg of the career Grand Slam in Scotland – and five wedges at Oak Hill, which has been lengthened just 29 yards since it last hosted a major in 2003.
