Sam Snead’s claret jug from the 1946 Open Championship was the crown jewel of a Thursday auction offered by his family, selling for $262,900.

That’s $262,300 more than Snead actually earned for winning it.

All told, 14 featured lots of Snead memorabilia garnered $1,106,868 at a Platinum Night Sports Auction held in Chicago.

Among other Snead artifacts to fetch a hefty price tag: His 1954 Masters trophy sold for $191,200; the 1959 Ryder Cup Championship trophy went for $179,250; and the 1951 PGA Championship Wanamaker Trophy netted $119,500.
