PHOENIX – Some second-place finishes are better than others.

Stacy Lewis, coming off what she called an unsatisfying Asian swing, closed with a 6-under-par 66 Sunday to finish tied for second at the JTBC Founders Cup. It’s the sixth second-place finish for Lewis since she won the Ricoh Women’s British Open late last summer.

“Coming off Asia, I wasn’t really happy with my game,” Lewis said. “So to come out here and make some birdies at the end of the round is really encouraging. That’s been my Achilles heel over these last couple of months.”

Lewis birdied four of the final five holes on Sunday. She will play the Kia Classic next week as her final preparation for the year’s first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

“I’m starting to feel more comfortable with my putter,” Lewis said. “It’s still not quite where I want it, but this is really good to build off for going into Kraft.”
