Just how good was Rory McIlroy’s 2012 season?

Only the richest ever.

With his Dubai double on Sunday, the Northern Irishman collected $1.33 million for winning the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and another $1 million in bonus prize money for capturing the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.

A five-time winner worldwide in 2012, McIlroy earned a combined $11,953,586 to become the all-time leading money earner in a single season (combining both PGA and European tour earnings). He bested the previous mark set by Tiger Woods, in 2007, by $395,857.

McIlroy also solidified his standing as the No. 1 player in the world ranking. He leads by 4.33 points, the largest such margin since February 2010, when Woods led Steve Stricker.
