THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Maurice Allen will be an underdog when he takes on 2013 World Long Drive champion Tim Burke on Tuesday in the Round of 16, but it won’t be because of a lack of star power in his corner.
Allen, a 12 seed, will take on No. 1-seeded Burke with “Uncle” Julius Erving cheering him on. That’s right, the very same Dr. J who starred for the Philadelphia 76ers and could still dunk a basketball as recently as a couple years ago at the ripe old age of 63.

Allen was even rocking Dr. J socks for the competition, featuring his famous fan and his famous afro.
And Erving isn’t the only star supporting Allen. Former NBA center John Salley and comedians Cedric the Entertainer and George Lopez, who have all played golf with Allen and Erving in the past, also tweeted their support:
