Woods 68 could have been lower

As good as it was, it could have been better. I’ll give him the missed putt at the first – even Tiger Woods gets nervous – but a back nine sprinkled with uncashed opportunities tells me that opening 68 could have been a bit lower.

After a poor chip, Woods missed a 12-footer for par at the 10th and a 7-footer for birdie at the 12th – Matt Kuchar had just given him a perfect read. The 10-foot miss for eagle on 13 was a very tough putt, but the 4-footer he pulled on the closing hole was not, leaving us to wonder what might have been.

My man Brandel Chamblee doesn’t agree – he thinks I’m nuts for saying Tiger putted poorly. I told Chamblee, ‘That’s not what I said.’ Tiger didn’t roll it like a 15 handicap – he just didn’t make as many as Tiger sometimes does.
