Presidents Cup course suffers setback

With just two months until the 2009 Presidents Cup in San Francisco, sfgate.com is reporting that five greens at Harding Park Golf Course have suffered burn marks from accidental over-fertilization.

According to the report, on July 23 brown streaks appeared on the greens at Nos. 1, 3, 7, 11 and 13. All five greens have been closed to the public, and temporary greens are being utilized.

Cal Ross, PGA Tour senior vice president of agronomy, has already assessed the damage personally, and is confident they’ll be back to normal in time for the Presidents Cup on October 6.

The Presidents Cup marks the first time Harding Park has hosted a PGA Tour event since the 2005 World Golf Championships – American Express Championship, in which Tiger Woods beat John Daly in a playoff.
